Teenager survives after knife plunged five inches into skull

It looks like an elaborate hoax but these x-ray pictures of a teenager with a five-inch knife plunged into his head reveal how lucky he is to be alive.
The 16-year-old boy and two other young men were injured when they tried to stop their friend being robbed at a bus stop in South London.
With the knife protruding from his forehead after the attack in Walworth, the boy was rushed to hospital.
Miraculously he survived and was restored to full health but requires regular hospital check. It is believed he has started college.

A 17-year-old male, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm at Inner London Crown Court last week.
The boy, who was in a gang of three, attempted to rob a teenager outside Tesco in Old Kent Road at around 4.40pm on November 28 2007.
Three of the intended victim’s friends stepped in and were stabbed. One suffered a chest wound and the other minor injuries to his shoulder. Both have recovered.
The defendant was seen running away, but dropped his hat and mobile phone at the scene and was identified by DNA traces and arrested at his home several days later.
Detective Constable Scott Albert said: “Anyone who carries a knife risks a heavy jail sentence. The defendant has affected four lives, including his own.
“Anyone thinking of carrying a knife should be warned by this case. Don’t be a statistic. Life is precious.”
